Teaching and Academic
As a fifth-year medical student at Alexandria University School of Medicine, I am passionately committed to pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery, with a particular focus on knee and hip arthroplasty, as well as a developing interest in spinal surgery. My academic performance, evidenced by a GPA of 3.32 and ranking within the top 20% of my class, reflects my dedication to excellence and my commitment to continuous professional and personal growth.
Currently, I serves as co-author in five systematic reviews and meta-analyses focusing on outcomes in arthroplasty, as well as three multicentric cross-sectional studies investigating orthopedic issues and rheumatological diseases within the Egyptian population. These projects underscore my dedication to advancing evidence-based practice and bridging the gap between research and clinical care to improve patient outcomes, particularly in the fields of arthroplasty and trauma care. Additionally, I have contributed as a co-author to four cross-sectional studies, primarily centered on musculoskeletal health, medical oncology, neurology, and general surgery.
Joining IODA represents an opportunity for me to actively participate in fostering a culture of belonging and representation within our specialty. I am particularly motivated by the chance to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are committed to breaking down barriers and creating pathways for future generations of diverse orthopaedic professionals. I am confident that my involvement with IODA will not only enhance my own understanding and advocacy but also allow me to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of diversity in orthopaedics on a global scale.
In my workplace, I have approached Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through both individual and collaborative efforts aimed at fostering a more inclusive environment. Recognizing the importance of representation and equity, I have taken proactive steps to advocate for and implement DEI initiatives. For example:
1. Mentorship and Advocacy: I have actively mentored and supported individuals from underrepresented groups, providing guidance and resources to help them navigate challenges and advance in their careers. I believe in creating opportunities for others and amplifying their voices in spaces where they may not always be heard.
2. Education and Awareness: I have participated in and organized workshops, seminars, and discussions focused on DEI topics, such as unconscious bias, cultural competency, and inclusive leadership. These initiatives have helped raise awareness and encourage meaningful dialogue among colleagues.
3. Policy and Process Improvement: I have collaborated with leadership to review and improve workplace policies to ensure they promote equity and inclusivity. This includes advocating for fair hiring practices, transparent promotion criteria, and accessible resources for professional development.
Inclusion, to me, is the intentional creation of an environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. It goes beyond mere representation—it’s about actively ensuring that people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences have a genuine sense of belonging and equal access to opportunities.
My proudest achievement is being appointed as the CEO of the Research Schools Committee at the Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI), a thriving organization with over 13,000 members across 70+ universities and 20 specializations. This role has allowed me to lead strategic growth, foster collaboration, and inspire innovation, positioning URI as a leading research initiative in the Arab world.
In this capacity, I have focused on expanding outreach, strengthening mentorship networks, and enhancing research training programs to empower students and maximize their potential. It has been incredibly rewarding to contribute to URI’s mission of equipping undergraduates with essential research skills, global opportunities, and platforms for publishing, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
What makes this achievement particularly meaningful to me is the tangible impact it has had on thousands of students, helping them unlock their potential and pursue their passions in research and innovation. Leading such a dynamic and impactful organization has not only honed my leadership and strategic planning skills but also deepened my commitment to fostering education and innovation on a large scale.
